Bloomsbury Inspired Sideboard

Updated: Oct 31, 2025

I have really started to paint again this year and I have allowed myself to paint for my pleasure, subjects that interest me. I have had a lovely few months and it has been quite interesting to see where it has taken me!

With Tea & Roses I have always loved to investigate historic art influences and designs. One group I love and that was reintroduced to me by Annie Sloan is The Bloomsbury Group. I first came across the work of Duncan Grant at Lincoln Cathedral while studying there. I loved his work at the time but had not investigated the group style in my painting.

The Bloomsbury Group was a collective of influential English writers, artists, and intellectuals who lived and worked in the early 20th century, primarily around the Bloomsbury area of London. The group was known for its progressive ideas on art, literature, sexuality, and social issues. Their work and philosophy had a profound impact on the culture and intellectual landscape of their time, and their legacy continues to influence contemporary art, literature, and thought.

I particular love the everyday artworks created in Charleston Farmhouse. Here everything is thoughtfully considered, curated and painted. Inspired by pieces from Charleston, I have painted this large sideboard. With its bold floral patterns, circular motifs and used of Charleston colours it creates quite a statement!

I love the contrast of thick paint and colour washes on the piece which travel around each side. This would make an excellent addition to a kitchen interior.

Available now in the shop at £599.
